Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
